Challenge
The Founders of Monarc boxing had the vision: a brand ethos, community goals, and high-performance programming. But they needed to validate and launch it to market. The gym solved real pain points in boxing, community building, and elite athlete development. The problem? Three critical gaps stood between concept and launch: no brand identity, no digital presence, and no operating technology stack.
With significant capital invested in the physical buildout and immediate operating costs looming, Monarc needed day-one success. Immediate member growth, exceptional consumer experience, and high retention weren't optional. There was no room for a slow ramp-up.

Approach
I started with deep-dive interviews with the Founders to understand why they were building this, what problems they were solving, and how they planned to deliver a differentiated member experience. I ran extensive market research locally and internationally, analyzing which gyms were winning and why.
Then I went straight to the source: would-be consumers at other boxing gyms and through the Founders' networks. I needed to understand what being part of a gym means to them and how their experiences with local boxing gyms had fallen short.
Building a boxing gym requires creating a deeply personal consumer experience built on trust, empathy, and mutual respect. In a crowded Vancouver market, establishing immediate brand authority was non-negotiable.
I applied a Jobs To Be Done framework to uncover the emotional and functional 'jobs' local athletes were hiring a gym to perform, positioning Monarc as the premier solution for high-performance development. To validate the business model pre-launch, I used a Lean Startup GTM approach: identifying minimum required digital architecture, building it out, and testing with a user focus group.

Solution
On opening day, Monarc had a complete digital ecosystem. Social media presence had captured a substantial following. The brand identity seamlessly reflected the culture and approach that addressed the unmet needs I'd identified. The entire funnel from discovery to booking was operational, integrated with CRM, class management, scheduling, and admin processes.
Key deliverables: a brand identity positioning approachable coaching alongside high performance, establishing immediate industry authority; a frictionless website with streamlined workflows; a fully-featured CRM delivering excellent consumer experience; and a social media presence with content strategy to drive first-quarter momentum.
My leadership contributions spanned the build: I directed brand asset creation with contractors, built launch social assets creating pre-launch hype, architected and built the website with integrations and event tracking using no-code tools, led CRM discovery and implementation, designed internal staff onboarding focused on customer experience, and established ongoing consumer feedback loops for rapid iteration.
Outcomes
After six months: 5K organic website users via Google search, 1.6K Instagram followers, 3x growth in coaching staff, continual expansion in membership and class schedule, and profitability after four months.
The qualitative wins tell the real story. Members have left 32 Google reviews with a perfect 5-star rating. The caliber of coaching is validated by the pedigree of Canadian boxing amateurs and professionals now training at Monarc. Industry recognition followed quickly: Monarc has hosted multiple events and partnered with Boxing British Columbia to host the 2025 Youth and Junior Provincial Championships.
